Mark Burton – Biography

I am a London based British artist and photographer with family roots in Australia. Over the last twenty years my work has interwoven themes of family and community. More recently, my practice has focused on the impact human activities are having on the natural environment.

2025 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

2024 Invasive Species. An exhibition in Brixton, London, with printmaker Anna Alcock

Finalist in 2021 and 2022 for the Bob and Diane Fund which supports visual storytelling of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Work featured: ‘James and his Grandparents.’

2018 curated ‘We are the leaders we have been waiting for.’ This was an exhibition in East London involving over 100 artists protesting violence against young people.

2015 Exhibited From Poland to Waltham Forest at the Vestry House Museum, Walthamstow. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

2013 Photo-film shown at Royal Academy as part of architect Richard Roger’s exhibition. This work was commissioned by the British Council as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

2012 Recognised as a world class locally based artist, and commissioned to document the impact of the Olympics in East London

2011 Guests and Volunteers. A solo exhibition. Documenting the relationship between guests and volunteers on the Crisis at Christmas night shift
